$295,000,000 jury verdict for three deaths and injury to three surviving members of the Romo family against the Ford Motor Company.
 Ford was held liable for maliciously rushing the 1978 Ford Bronco to market with an unreinforced one-third steel/two-thirds plastic roof to get a foothold in the explosively growing sport utility vehicle ("SUV") market. Ford began marketing the car even though it was known that : (1) the Bronco would rollover more than other passenger vehicles; and (2) without steel reinforcements the Bronco's roof would fail resulting in death and injury to the occupants in a rollover accident. When the Romo's Bronco rolled over, as Ford knew it would, the roof broke and flattened like a pancake killing the mother, father, and son and leaving the three surviving children orphans.
